Georgia Wareham Ruled Out of The Hundred 2025, Nicola Carey Joins Northern Superchargers

The Northern Superchargers have been dealt a significant blow, losing one of their most reliable match-winners mid-season. Georgia Wareham, Australia’s dynamic leg-spinning allrounder, has been forced to withdraw after picking up a groin strain ahead of the team’s clash with Trent Rockets on Sunday during the ongoing Hundred 2025.

In a swift move, the Superchargers have called up fellow Australian star Nicola Carey as her replacement, ensuring the squad retains a strong all-round presence. Cricket Australia confirmed that Wareham will return home for rehabilitation, with her sights firmly set on making the 50-over World Cup squad.

Wareham’s absence is more than just a change on the team sheet—it’s the loss of a player who has been central to the Superchargers’ early-season dominance. She lit up the season opener with a Player of the Match performance with her 29*(17) and 2/14. Superchargers won against the Rockets in their second match before losing against Southern Brave in their most recent match.

Across her three seasons with the side—2023, 2024, and now 2025—Wareham has been a model of consistency. In 2023, she snared 11 wickets in 10 matches with a best of 3/7, while in 2024 she took 6 wickets from 7 matches, highlighted by figures of 3/12. Her lower-order batting punch only added to her value, making her a genuine game-changer in tight situations.

Her recent form for Australia showed exactly why she is so highly regarded. In the T20I series against New Zealand, Wareham bowled with control and discipline, returning figures of 0/16, 1/15, and 1/26. In the Women’s Premier League earlier this year, she was equally impressive for Royal Challengers Bengaluru—hammering 93 runs at a blistering strike rate of 136.76 and finishing fifth on the wickets chart with 12 scalps from 8 matches, including a best of 3/21.

Stepping into this role is no easy task, but Nicola Carey arrives with the credentials to make an immediate impact. Her previous taste of the Hundred came in 2022 with Welsh Fire, where she produced a standout spell of 3/18, ended with 4 wickets from 4 games, and contributed 76 handy runs. Her most recent T20 stint happened when she starred in the 2024 Women’s Big Bash League for Hobart Hurricanes, amassing 228 runs with a top score of an unbeaten 64 and bagging 12 wickets, her best being 3/26.

The Superchargers have so far played three matches this season, winning two and losing one, which sees them sitting in third place on the table with 8 points. With Carey joining the setup, they will be aiming to strengthen their push towards the top as they prepare for their next challenge—a high-stakes clash against Birmingham Phoenix on August 15th, starting at 07:30 PM (IST).
