Former England skipper Heather Knight has shared an update on her rehabilitation journey following a hamstring injury that ruled her out of the national team against India and The Hundred 2025.

The 34-year-old picked up the injury during England’s third T20I win over the West Indies. Despite visibly limping and struggling to run between the wickets, late in her innings, she remained unbeaten on 66 in the 17-run victory but was unable to take the field during the second innings.
According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), a scan confirmed a “significant tendon injury” to her right hamstring. In a video shared last month, former England captain Heather Knight was seen doing stretches at home, a positive sign that she is no longer reliant on crutches, which is welcome news for England fans.
She also posted a photo from a swimming session, part of her water-based recovery therapy. Away from the pitch, Knight appears to be making the most of her time off, spending quality time with friends and family. In another clip from the same thread, she was seen at a golf course, casually hitting a few shots, an activity she has previously mentioned enjoying.
In a new Instagram reel captioned “Rehab week 7-10… Stick drills and blood flow restriction,” Knight opened up about both the physical and mental challenges of her recovery. While she noted that her hamstring is feeling better, she admitted the last couple of weeks have been tough mentally.
“Keen to quick on, but we need to make sure things have healed up properly,” she wrote. “I’m really starting to miss playing now!”
The video shows Knight undergoing stick drills and blood flow restriction training, an advanced method often used to accelerate muscle recovery. Despite the setbacks, the former England captain remains optimistic, ending her caption with a hopeful message: “Hopefully I’ll be replacing my stick with a cricket bat soon.”
Knight’s absence is undoubtedly also a blow for London Spirit, who begin their title defence on August 5 at Lord’s. In her stead, England’s all-rounder Charlie Dean has taken over captaincy duties.
While the ECB has not specified a timeline for Heather Knight’s recovery, they remain hopeful that she will be fit and available for selection ahead of the Women’s Cricket World Cup in September – October 2025.
Knight will be a key figure for England in the upcoming World Cup, offering much-needed stability and balance to a middle order that has struggled in recent white-ball series. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping to see Knight back on the field soon, especially with the World Cup just a month away.
