Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced the third phase of the South Africa Under-19 Women’s national training programme, welcoming 39 of the nation’s most promising young cricketers for a high‑performance camp at the CSA Centre of Excellence in Tshwane.
The programme runs from July 16-19, marking a significant step in preparation for the ICC Under‑19 Women’s T20 World Cup in 2027. This camp will focus on broader talent identification to targeted development. Consisting of successful installments in the past, the group has now been narrowed down to 39 players, based on performance and growth potential.
The squad includes Proteas Women-capped wicketkeeper-batter Karabo Meso, alongside Ashleigh van Wyk, Mieke van Voorst, and Diedre van Rensburg. Seasoners from the SA Under-19 Women’s side, Chanel Venter and Jae-Leigh Filander are also included who reached the final of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia in January 2025.
South Africa Under-19 Women’s Head Coach Dinesha Devnarain reflected, “We looked for raw talent, whether that’s from a strength and conditioning point of view, whether they are really quick, or they have great attributes of a spinner. Players who are looking to take the game forward but can also strike, rotate, and have good technique. We went along those lines to see how we can add value to this pipeline.”
Illustrating about the selection process, player development, and goals for the upcoming camp, the head coach emphasized on, “After we held the first two camps, the Talent Acceleration Programme (TAP) leads got into serious work with regards to the skills we’ve identified, which will be crucial for the subcontinent.
“From all aspects, batting, bowling, fielding, and also from a mental point of view. In the SA Under-19 Women, we have a culture document that we strive ourselves on, maintaining those types of standards. I’m hoping we get a chance during these four days to present that document, so the players are well aware of what’s expected at the South African Under-19 level.”
Dinesha Devnarain concluded, “Hopefully, what we see after this camp is the team taking shape into what the balance of the squad will look like heading into the World Cup.”
These initiatives reflect CSA’s intent to cast a wide talent net starting from age-group Weeks across the country and progressively refine the talent pool toward a World Cup-ready squad. CSA is positioning its U19 Women’s programme to not only replicate its previous success at the 2025 World Cup but to lay the groundwork for long-term dominance at the youth level.
