Women’s World Qualifier Final : The whole story

There is so much of silence in between that I can still hear the social media going all gala over India’s win on South Africa yesterday. It was just a day ago when the Indian team was at probability of winning the finals but the crucial last moments decided the fate of the match. I guess I still cannot forget the scene where the whole Indian team reunited on the cricket ground to celebrate their success because the match was truly a nail biting one. The ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017 concluded yesterday after a series of matches of Team A and Team B.

So here’s something you should know about the final. The credit of the one to power India to a one wicket win over the opposite team in a last ball thriller goes to none other than Harmanpreet Kaur. Indian women needed nine runs of six balls, they were expecting defeat coming from a distance when they lost Poonam Yadav who managed to bring 7 runs in the first delivery but Harmanpreet Kaur brought India back on track and sealed the win by taking a two in the last ball of the over.

Opener Mona Meshram and Deepti Sharma who secured 59 and 71 runs respectively were the key players for India as they added 122 run innings for the first wicket to lay the foundation for the chase for runs. Earlier when South Africa was on strike, Rajeshwari Gayakwad bagged 3 wickets in her 9 overs while S Pandey took 2 wickets to help India bowl out the opponents for 244 in 49.4 overs. India had already safeguarded a place in this year’s World Cup but the win at the finals was a beneficial add-on to the success that they’ve earned.

At one point, India looked to be definite to win the title with 209 runs with 4 wickets after 43 overs but then India lost 4 wickets in the matter of 14 runs from 2 overs which took away the advantage from their hands and subjected them to intense pressure. It was the blazing six hit on the fifth ball of the over and the two on the last ball that sealed the stamp of victory. Some of the main highlights of the match were how Mona Meshram scored a 59 for India, India were 245 to win the final against South Africa and Harmanpreet’s heroics helped India seal the deal.

Finally we can all imagine how our heroes marked the last scene kissing the victory at their feet. Harmanpreet Kaur hoisted her bat up in the air and there concludes one more story.
