Top 5 Partnerships in Women’s ODI Cricket

Cricket is a game of partnerships. Strong partnerships are needed to put up a huge total or chase down a target and hence, taking forward our series of statistical analyses in women’s cricket, today we talk about the Top 5 partnerships in Women’s ODI Cricket.  

5) Suzie Bates and Haidee Tiffen – 262

On 19th March 2008, something incredible happened. Suzie, an Olympics athlete smashed her career-best innings and her partner, Tiffen scored her debut century against Pakistan at Sydney in the 2009 Women’s World Cup. On their way, they shared a partnership of 262, which was then the highest. New Zealand made 373 for 7 and bowled Pakistan for 150, registering a 223 runs win.

4) Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins – 268

On 8th August 2008, Sarah Taylor and Caroline Atkins put up 268 runs opening stand against South Africa, the then highest stand in Women’s ODIs For England women. It was the highest partnership since Lynn Thomas and Enid Bakewell’s 246-run stand in 1973. Both Taylor and Atkins scored their centuries with the former scoring 129 and the latter getting bowled for 145. England scored an above par 310, before dismissing the Proteas for a cheap 85 and winning the game by 225 runs.

3) Sarah Taylor and Tammy Beaumont – 275

On 5th July 2017, Sarah Taylor and Tammy Beaumont registered England’s highest ODI partnership in Women’s cricket in the 2017 Women’s World Cup league game, which is the highest partnership in Women’s World Cup history. This was the 2nd highest partnership and also the highest for 2nd wicket at that time. With this partnership England score 373 and won the game by 68 runs.

2) Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek – 295

Amelia Kerr and Leigh Kasperek combined for the second largest partnership of all time in Women’s ODI cricket of 295 runs for the second wicket. Amelia Kerr, however, went on to score the highest individual score in Women’s ODI (232*) surpassing a 21-year old record od Belinda Clark’s 229* as the records were tumbled. Leigh scored 113 in this record partnership. New Zealand posted 440 for three and the double centurion came and picked up 5-17 setting up a 305 run win.

1) Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma – 320

The Indian opening pair of Punam Raut and Deepti Sharma created history in Potchefstroom, South Africa in May 2017. They registered the highest partnership in Women’s ODI against Ireland. Punam Raut scored 109 while her partner, Deepti Sharma scored a magnificent 188 which is the 3rd highest individual score in an Innings in Women’s ODI. The duo broke many records on the way and registered the highest partnership in women’s ODI history. This is also the 2nd highest opening partnership in ODI history(men/women). India made 358 and bowled out Ireland in 40 overs to claim a victory by 249 runs.
