Danni Wyatt-Hodge completes 3000 T20I runs, becomes first English player to do so

The England women’s team led by skipper Heather Knight is currently touring South Africa for an all-format series that includes a three-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series and then a one-off Test match. In the 2nd T20I, en ruote to her powerful knock of 78, the veteran opening batter Danielle Wyatt-Hodge became the first English women to complete 3,000 runs in the T20I format.

Danni made her T20I debut on 4th March 2010 against India at the Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Surpassing the 3,000 runs milestone, she has amassed 3,068 runs, at an impressive strike rate of 128.58 and a decent average of 23.24, in 145 Women’s T20I innings. Her tally of runs includes 17 half-centuries and a couple of centuries. Her best performance with the bat for her side came on 25th March 2018 against India when she scored a sensational century (124 off 64 balls) at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Danni completed 1,000 runs in the format on 16th November 2018 in the Women’s T20 World Cup game against South Africa when she scored 27 off 27 balls. She completed 2,000 runs in the format on 25th July 2022, in the 3rd T20I against South Africa when she scored 30 off 25 balls in the County Ground, Derby. She completed 3,000 runs in the format on 27th November 2024 against South Africa en route to her brilliant half-century (78 off 45 balls) at Willowmoore Park, Benoni. Notably, all three landmark moments (1,000, 2,000, and 3,000 runs), came against South Africa.

Notably, she is also the 2nd fastest woman to 3000 T20I runs by balls faced, only behind Alyssa Healy.

Following their nervy victory in the opening T20I against South Africa, England backed up their performance with a clinical display as fifties from Danni Wyatt-Hodge (78) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (67*) powered them to a total of 204/4. Sarah Glenn’s four-wicket haul then led the side to a comprehensive 36-run victory in the second T20I, securing the three-match T20I series with one game to go. The final match is scheduled for November 30, 2024 (Saturday), at SuperSport Park, Centurion, starting at 9:30 PM IST.
