In the lead-up to the 2024-25 home international season, New Zealand’s women’s domestic cricket season kicks off with the 8th edition of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield (HJS), the 50-over competition, set to run from November 16, 2024, to March 1, 2025. From squads and schedules to broadcasting details and format, here’s everything you need to know about the 6-team 2024-25 HJS competition.
Last season saw the Otago Sparks clinch their second title, continuing the competitive legacy of the tournament since its inception in 2017-18. Over the years, the Auckland Hearts have claimed the Shield twice, while the Central Hinds, Canterbury Magicians, and Wellington Blaze have each lifted it once. The Northern Districts remain the only team yet to get their hands on the prestigious Shield.
Format:
The Hallyburton Johnstone Shield 2024-25 will follow the same structure as last season—a double round-robin format—with five doubleheader weekends where teams play one another back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday, culminating in a final featuring the table toppers.
