India began its campaign in the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup with a challenging 58-run loss to New Zealand but rebounded strongly to secure two points against Pakistan. Bowling first against Pakistan, Arundhati Reddy led the charge with a standout 3-fer and Shreyanka Patil also starred with a couple of wickets. The remaining bowlers each chipped in with one wicket, successfully restricting Pakistan to 105/8. In response, Shafali Verma’s vital 32 runs helped India navigate the early stages, while Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur guided the team to victory, achieving the target with six wickets and seven balls to spare.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka faced a surprising defeat to Pakistan in their season opener and struggled to recover in a tougher match against Australia. With double-digit scores from Nilakshika de Silva (29*), Harshitha Madhavi (23), and Anushka Sanjeewani (16), Sri Lanka could only muster 93/7. They put Australia on the back foot early, reducing them to 3/54, but the dependable Beth Mooney anchored the innings, leading her team to victory and finishing the chase in 14.4 overs.

In T20I head-to-head matchups, India holds a significant advantage over Sri Lanka, with 19 wins out of 25 matches, including one game that ended without a result. In their last five face-offs, India has won three times, while Sri Lanka has claimed two wins, with their most recent meeting resulting in Sri Lanka’s win in the Asia Cup Final in July this year.
