Former Australian captain Meg Lanning has been named Prime Video’s official ambassador for its exclusive International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 broadcast in Australia.
As the most successful captain in cricket history, across both men’s and women’s formats, Meg Lanning is one of Australia’s most renowned female cricketers, with seven ICC World Cup titles to her name, five of them as captain, across formats.
Lanning last featured in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 before announcing her retirement. The upcoming ninth edition of the T20 World Cup will mark Australia’s first campaign without Lanning since 2012. She will now join Prime Video’s broadcast team as an expert, offering insights and analysis throughout the tournament.
Hwei Loke, Head of Prime Video Australia and New Zealand, expressed excitement about welcoming Meg Lanning as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 ambassador.
Loke highlighted Prime Video’s dedication to providing top-quality sports content and confirmed that every match of the World Cup will be streamed live on the platform, ensuring fans across Australia and New Zealand can enjoy the event on any device. Prime Video holds the Australian broadcast rights for ICC cricket events for the next four years.

Meg Lanning also shared her enthusiasm for joining the Prime Video team as an ambassador for their exclusive coverage of the tournament. She expressed her anticipation for experiencing the World Cup from a fresh perspective, as it will be her first since retiring from international cricket. Lanning is eager to follow the Australian team’s progress live on Prime Video, noting how strong the squad looks.
Lanning remarked, “Being the first World Cup since my retirement from international cricket, I’m looking forward to enjoying the tournament from a new perspective that I haven’t had before.”
Lanning took over the Australian captaincy in 2014 and led the team to championship that season. While Australia finished runners-up in the 2016 season, Meg-Laning & Co. bounced back completing a three-peat, winning consecutive T20 World Cup titles in 2018, and 2020, 2023.
Since the 2023 T20 World Cup, Lanning has not played for her national side, eventually announcing her retirement at the age of 31 later that year. Alyssa Healy has since taken over the captaincy, guiding Australia into the ninth edition of the tournament, with Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Molineux, and Tayla Vlaeminck joining the squad as key changes announced on August 26.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will run from October 3 to 20, 2024, igniting excitement among cricket fans worldwide. This edition will be hosted in the United Arab Emirates for the first time with matches held at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium, after shifting from the previous hosts Bangladesh.
Ten teams are divided into two groups: Group A includes defending champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, while Group B consists of England, South Africa, Bangladesh, Scotland, and the West Indies.
These teams will compete in 23 matches, with Australia aiming to claim an unprecedented fourth consecutive ICC Women’s T20 World Cup trophy and their seventh title overall. Australia’s first match will be against Sri Lanka, champions of the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup Qualifiers 2024, on October 5 at 3:30 PM IST.
