In the 30th match of the ongoing 04 edition of The Hundred (Women’s), table-toppers Welsh Fire further solidified their place at the top of the points table with a commanding victory over Southern Brave, securing a direct path to the Final.
On opting to bowl first, Welsh Fire quickly took control as Hayley Matthews and Shabnim Ismail struck early to put the Brave on the back foot. Matthews continued to apply pressure with her tight bowling, while Jess Jonassen delivered a brilliant spell, and Georgia Davis cleaned up the tail, bowling out the Brave for a mere 103 runs. Chloe Tryon was the lone bright spot for the Brave, scoring a mature 55 off 38 balls amidst the fall of wickets. In response, Welsh Fire’s skipper Tammy Beaumont led the chase with a solid half-century, marking a return to form, while Hayley contributed with the bat as well, helping the team to a 9-wicket victory.

Matthews then struck in the middle passage of play, dismissing Maia Bouchier, Naomi Dattani, and Kalea Moore, finishing with impressive figures of 4/14 off 20 balls, playing a significant role in restricting Southern Brave to 103. With the bat, she contributed an unbeaten 35 off 26 balls, forming a solid 72*-run partnership with skipper Tammy Beaumont, driving Welsh Fire to a dominant victory.
2) Chloe Tryon (Southern Brave):
The 30-year-old, building on her string of starts this season, scored a mature 55 off 38 balls, which included seven boundaries and a six. Coming in at 15/3, Tryon’s gritty innings was crucial in stabilizing the innings, forging a vital partnership with Rhianna Southby (15) that helped Southern Brave reach a total of 103. Despite the team’s struggles, her fifty was a standout performance. She also bowled five balls, conceding just six runs.

3) Tammy Beaumont (Welsh Fire):
The 33-year-old opener bounced back from a challenging season in The Hundred with a solid half-century. In a modest chase of 103, skipper Tammy Beaumont led from the front after Sophia Dunkley’s early dismissal, scoring an unbeaten 59 off 40 balls, which included 10 boundaries at a strike rate of 147.50. Her unbroken 72-run partnership with Hayley Matthews guided Welsh Fire to secure a spot in the Final.
4) Jess Jonassen (Welsh Fire):
The 31-year-old all-rounder wasn’t required with the bat but excelled with the ball. Following a strong start by Hayley Matthews and Shabnim Ismail, Jonassen dismissed Georgia Adams with a cracker, courtesy of a neat stumping by Sarah Bryce. She then sent back Freya Kemp and also took the crucial wicket of the well-set Chloe Tryon, finishing with impressive figures of 3/21 off 20 balls.
