The retention and Trade window for the upcoming, landmark 10th edition of the Women’s Big Bash League(WBBL) begins today.
The upcoming edition of the Women’s Big Bash League is going to be a landmark 10th edition of the WBBL. Earlier in the week Cricket Australia had announced certain changes that will be implemented from the upcoming edition.
One of them was the reduction of the length of the tournament, as the league stages are trimmed down to 40 matches from the upcoming edition in order to accommodate the launch of a new state-based competition. A shortened tournament will also mean that the participating teams will play a total of 10 matches in their campaign.
Contracting Window:
The retention and trade window has begun from today and will be open till 12 pm on 10th May (Friday). The franchises will be able to sign their players from the last season. They can also trade with another club by signing a Cricket Australia contracted player without a WBBL deal.
The full contracting window will open on 10th May 2024 (Friday). The franchises will then be allowed to pick out of contract players from rival franchises and sign one overseas player for a multi-year contract as per the new multi-year deal system.
Draft Order:
The WBBL season 10 draft order is expected to take place in June and it will be determined via a lottery.
WBBL Draft:
The draft for the upcoming 10th edition of the tournament is expected to take place in September.
