UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants knocked out, RCB makes it to WPL Playoffs

Match 19 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) saw the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lock horns with the Mumbai Indians. RCB captain Smriti Mandhana won the toss and decided to have a bowl first on a surface that historically favored the team batting first.

The star for the night Ellyse Perry was awarded the Player of the Match for her all-round performance she became the first bowler to claim 6 wickets in a WPL innings with figures of 6 for 16. She was also the top scorer for RCB with the bat as she scored a 38 ball 40, guiding her team over the finish line in a tricky chase.

With RCB’s victory over Mumbai Indians in their final group stage fixture of the 2024 season of the Women’s Premier League. RCB has booked a spot in the playoff stage becoming the third team to qualify for the knockout stage. Having knocked over the defending champions for a total of 113 runs, the RCB batters made light work of the chase as they hunted down the total in 14.5 overs.

RCB’s victory over the Mumbai Indians also means that the other two teams, the UP Warriorz and Gujarat Giants are knocked out of the playoff race. Having had a poor outing in the 2023 season of the Women’s Premier League, the RCB franchise turned things around and qualified for the playoffs in the 2024 season by finishing their campaign with 4 victories in 8 games and ending 3rd in the points table with 8 points.
