Fans were not treated well by volunteers in the WPL 2024 match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians at Chinnaswamy.

The X was filled with posts and comments after the match between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians held in Chinnaswamy, on 25th February, when users posted some videos regarding the Mumbai Indians’ flags not being allowed in the stands considering it a home match for the Gujarat Giants.

One of the X users with ID:piyushnathani1 posted a video of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) volunteers asking the Mumbai Indians fans not to have the flags of Mumbai Indians because the stadium was serving as a home ground for Gujarat Giants. The volunteers were seen taking the flags from fans in the video posted and on being asked about the officials, the volunteers never came back with them.

To the video, some fans reacted, and one of the users ID: Sainity07 wrote that they faced a similar kind of problem being in the stadium for the same match and further added that the volunteers named a person who was responsible for the circumstances happening in the stadium. In conclusion, the user expressed an unpleasant experience with the behavior of the management towards the fans.

An X user with ID: PSujvil also posted a video wherein it was seen and written that the ground staff took the Mumbai Indians’ flags away from the stadium.

Seeing the reactions that followed, fans weren’t happy with the home-and-away concept.

A user seemed very upset with the behavior of the volunteers with the fans, ID: VishalY44691113 where he also mentioned that the management does not care much about the fans, and feels that the fans need to stop going and create a match with no fans in stands which will force the management to be more careful for the fans.

Apart from the WPL 2024, some users also shared their previous experience on the same ground as a spectator where one user with ID:imvarad729 commented that in a recent Ind vs Afg match they stopped the fans from carrying the banners in the stadium because of the stadium rules. A user with ID: saiharsha198 added that they faced a similar problem during a match RCB vs SRH where they were asked to leave the SRH flags.

About the match, Gujarat Giants managed a respectable 126/9 on the scoreboard with notable contributions from Tanuja Kanwar, Kathryn Bryce, and Beth Mooney, despite the fall of early wickets, courtesy of Shabnim Ismail.

Mumbai Indians chased down the target successfully with 5 wickets in hand and 11 balls remaining. This match-winning performance of Mumbai was led by Harmanpreet Kaur and Amelia Kerr’s vital partnerships. Kerr’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award with standout figures of 4/17 and a crucial 31 runs.
