Amy Jones carried on the legacy of England’s rich tradition of wicket-keeper batters after Sarah Taylor’s retirement in 2019. She was included in the 2012 World Twenty20 squad but did not make her debut until the 2013 World Cup, where England lost a memorable match on the final ball against Sri Lanka. Later that year, she made her debut in the T20 format against Pakistan.
She was part of the squad that finished as runners-up to Australia in the 2014 World T20 but struggled to find consistent opportunities over the next few years. It took Amy Jones some time to achieve a significant milestone in her international career, notably scoring her maiden half-century for England after several appearances. Her breakthrough came during a crucial match against India in Nagpur, where she scored 94 runs, narrowly missing out on what would have been her first century. In the 2018 English summer, she smashed two more fifties against New Zealand. She played a crucial knock of 53 against India in the T20 World Cup semi-final before England fell short in the final against Australia.
Her career was a roller-coaster ride before becoming a regular in 2018. Amy represents Warwickshire in domestic cricket and has long been considered one of the best talents there. In the 2019 Ashes series, Amy Jones played a vital role for England, particularly in the One Day Internationals (ODIs), where she delivered standout performances. Across the series, she accumulated a total of 318 runs at an impressive average of 63.60. Her contributions included two half-centuries, with a highest score of 94. Amy Jones was named in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year for 2019. She made her Test debut in the 2019 Ashes Test at Taunton, scoring an impressive 64 while opening the innings.
Amy has scored over 3400 runs for England in more than 195 appearances across formats and continues to be a mainstay for her national side.
