Cricket South Africa has confirmed that the Proteas women’s cricket team will embark on an all-format tour of Australia in 2024, which will include three T20Is, three ODIs, and a four-day Test. This tour will mark the Proteas’ first-ever Test against Australia in Perth and will be their seventh Test since their readmission.
The tour will begin with the T20I series, with the first two matches held at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on 27 and 28 January, followed by the third match at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart on 30 January. These T20I matches will serve as preparation for the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
The ODI series will hold additional significance for both teams as they compete for crucial points in the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship campaign (2022/23-25), which is part of the qualification pathway for the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India. The three ODIs will be played at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on 3 February, and the North Sydney Oval in Sydney on 7 and 10 February.
The tour will conclude with a four-day Test match at the WACA Ground in Perth, scheduled to be played from 15-18 February. This historic match will be the Proteas’ seventh Test since their readmission and second, in two years following their draw against England in 2022.
Cricket South Africa CEO Pholetsi Moseki expressed his gratitude towards Cricket Australia for their collaboration in making this substantial tour a reality. Moseki also mentioned that the Proteas will face elite competition during a pivotal phase ahead of the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh in September, as the team continues their storied journey near the top of the women’s game.
The successful Women’s T20 World Cup held on South African soil has demonstrated immense interest in women’s cricket, and this upcoming tour goes a long way in delivering that excitement to the South African public and the global cricket fanbase.
