Another major announcement revelation is that spectators can the stadiums and watch the games free of cost. It is a massive phase for women’s cricket with the senior T20 World Cup set to be played just a few days after the U-19 campaign.
The launch saw former Proteas cricketer Sunette Vijeon being named as the tournament’s ambassador. Various dignitaries and guests were also present at the launch.
It’s also a crucial time for Cricket South Africa which will be hosting both events. The tournament director acknowledged this and commented on it too. “This is a watershed moment for women’s cricket in South Africa and for the game in our country. To host one ICC event in a year is cause for great celebration, but to claim two in such quick succession is beyond our wildest dreams”, he said.
Quite a few squads for the tournament have already been announced and the ones that haven’t done so yet are expected to follow suit soon.
