Top 5 Team Totals by England in Women’s ODIs

England in their final 3rd ODI against South Africa set a giant total of 371 for the visitors to chase down and save a whitewash but wasn’t to be. A look at the stats we found out that the total of 371 was England’s 5th highest One-day International (ODI) total with their highest having come against Pakistan. Interestingly, England’s top 3 highest ODI totals have come against Pakistan, each time it had Pakistan win the toss and invite England to bat and thankfully for Pakistan all the three came in different series.

1. England vs Pakistan on 22 Jun 2016: 378 Runs

Sitting on the top of the English shelf is, 22 June 2016, England at Worcester against Pakistan playing their 2nd ODI scored 378 in their 50 overs having lost only 5 wickets. Pakistan put England in to bat, the game had English openers Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield-hill both score centuries and England had a 235-run opening stand with the partnership being broken in the 39th over that saw both Beaumont on 104 and Winfield-hill on 123 walk back in the span of 2 balls. Nat Sciver powered a quickfire 33 ball 80 and the carnage had a stop with Sana Mir making the run-out. Danni Wyatt and skipper Heather in the little they had to face did a fine job. England finished their 50 overs with 378 runs on board for the loss of 5 wickets and had Pakistan bowled out for 166 with Anya Shrubsole claiming 4 wickets in her spell of 8.4 overs with a stunning economy of 2.26. Both Tammy Beaumont and Lauren Winfield-hill were awarded player of the match for their centuries.

England vs Pakistan on 27 Jun 2017 : 377 Runs

Pakistan again on English soil a year later on 27 June 2017 saw another English carnage come their way on a bigger occasion, early in the World Cup fixtures. This time the venue was Leicester and the centurions were skipper Heather and Nat Sciver. Pakistan put England to bat, Heather Knight was in early as Sarah Taylor walked back for 11 and Tammy Beaumont couldn’t repeat her innings from 2016 and Nat Sciver too found herself in the middle inside the powerplay overs. It took Pakistan 30 overs to break the partnership and it’d come in Heather Knight walk back after a fine century on 106, it was Asmavia Iqbal with the breakthrough. Danni Wyatt too played her role and played it to perfection with an unbeaten knock of 42(27). Nat Sciver’s carnage on the other end had a full stop put by Sana Mir on 137(92). Fran Wilson with a 19-ball 33 and Anya Shrubsole with 12(6) helped power England to 377-7. Pakistan just wasn’t in the game chasing that big a total and rain having interrupted saw England win by 107 runs through the DLS method.

England vs Pakistan on 12 Dec 1997 : 376 Runs

A blast from the past, the year is 1997, England again against Pakistan this time on Indian soil, Vijayawada during the Women’s World Cup scoring another monster of a total. England were put in to bat by Pakistan. Openers, Helen Plimmer and Janette Brittin provided England with a good start and the wicket of Helen Plimmer got Barbara Daniels to the crease. The pair of Barbara and opener, Janette Brittin went big for England as both scored individual centuries. Shaiza Khan got Pakistan a breakthrough dismissing Janette Brittin on 138(124). Sue Metcalfe couldn’t carry on the charge, she managed an unbeaten run a ball 35 with Barbara Daniels taking on the Pakistani attack and finishing unbeaten on 142(103) with England strongly placed on 376/2 having put in to bat. Interesting fact, there was only a six from the English batters and it’d come off Barbara’s bat. England were disciplined with the ball and restricted Pakistan to 146/3 in 47 overs.

England vs South Africa on 5 Jul 2017 : 373 Runs

One of England’s favourite grounds, Bristol too has a record total. No more Pakistan now, it’s South Africa on the 5th of July, 2017 during the World Cup Games. England this time having won the toss opt to bat and scripted yet another record and first against South Africa. Opener, Lauren Winfield-hill departed early on 24 just after the powerplay providing a good platform. Sarah Taylor joined Tammy Beaumont and the attacking duo took on the South African attack with all heart and soul, both Tammy Beaumont and Sarah Taylor got to their centuries and it was Sarah Taylor’s carnage that came to a close on 147 off 104 balls by Shabnim Ismail. Nat Sciver couldn’t make any contributions and was dismissed for 2(3). Tammy Beaumont falling 2 short on 148(145) walked back as Marizaane Kapp struck. Heather Knight powered a10-ball 22 that saw England finish on 373-5. Interesting fact, Sarah Taylor’s more aggressive innings of 147(104) didn’t see a single six and the only one of the innings had come off Tammy Beaumont’s bat. It did turn out to be an interesting match as big names, Laura Wolvaardt and Lizelle Lee started well with a 128-run stand. Thankfully for England, Mignon du Preez, Chloe Tryon and Sune Luus too got going but didn’t trouble the English much. Danielle Hazell bagged 3 that saw Kapp being dismissed on 3(4) and England win by 68 runs.

England vs South Africa on 18 Jul 2022 : 371 Runs

A game fresh from the oven, 18th July 2022 had England again punish South Africa with a total again in the 370s this time at Leicester. Emma Lamb who’s having a wonderful series added another good score of 67 before being dismissed and provided a good platform. England scoring a big one will surely have a Tammy Beaumont special, this time again there was one as she went on to score a fine century before being dismissed on 119(107). Sophia Dunkley played a fine knock of just below a run-a-ball before Heather Knight got going big and so did Danni Wyatt on the other end. Heather Knight on 63(49) was run out and Danni Wyatt’s powering 14 balls 33 too had a stop just before the closing of innings. England finished on a strong 371-7 and this time with much comfort, a 109-run margin bagged the win. Runs came from Laura Wolvaardt, Marizaane Kapp and Chloe Tryon with all three getting to individual fifties.
