The Women in Blue can finally realize their dream of playing in IPL as BCCI will be having major talks about the introduction of Women’s IPL in the upcoming Governing Council meeting on Friday, i.e 25th March 2022.
There is an expectation of BCCI starting the Women’s IPL within a year or so with 3-4 teams in the initial seasons. The meeting will have discussions on the potential roadmap through which the Women’s IPL can be established smoothly.

The BCCI President Sourav Ganguly last month had said that the back-end team of BCCI are already designing the league and are in touch with a few stakeholders and hopefully soon, there will be a proper plan on how to make this a reality.

The call for a Women’s IPL has been clamored since 2017 after team India’s epic run in the 2017 Women’s World Cup where they finished as runners up losing to England by 9 runs in the final at Lord’s. Many female cricketers across the world are also showing their interests and have called out BCCI to start women’s IPL after the successes of Women’s Big Bash League and The Women’s Hundred.
The West Indies Cricket Board also joined the frame last week as they announced the first edition of Women’s Caribbean Premier League in July later this year happening alongside with Men’s CPL. The first edition of WCPL will have 3 teams of Barbados Royals, Trinbago Knight Riders, and Guyana Amazon Warriors. The West Indies cricket board plans to grow the league to 6 teams as the years go by.
With the success of the 2022 Women’s World Cup and the introduction of Women’s CPL, BCCI will push harder to introduce the Women’s IPL as early as possible.
