There have been some great developments in the world of Women’s Cricket. We have been hearing about Women’s IPL being in the talks and now we have more good news. The ICC chairman has said that the Women’s Under 19 World Cup is very much on the cards for 2023. The men’s U19 World Cup is a big hit among the audience and has been a great place for youngsters to showcase their talent and pave the way through to the national side.

Having under 19 tournaments on a big scale also helps in scouting the front-runners for the future national side and also helps many young girls to get an opportunity to play for their national side. Only a few youngsters make it into the national team and without the exposure, they find it difficult to cope with the competition.

The ICC CEO has told that the inaugural edition of the Women’s under 19 World Cup might happen in 2023.

They also said that they will follow a similar pattern to the men’s under 19 World Cup format. They will conduct qualifiers for associate members to participate just like the men’s under 19 World Cup. The decision of holding the tournament was taken during the ICC board meetings in Dubai on 14 October 2019. Even though the decision has been underway ever since 2019, due to obstacles such as the pandemic it has not yet been converted into reality.

It was decided that the tournament was scheduled to take place in January 2021 and it was then moved to December 21 due to the Covid pandemic. In January 2021 it was confirmed that the Bangladesh cricket board would host the tournament in December 2021 however it was postponed for a second time and this time it was postponed to January 2023. This time however the ICC CEO Geoff Allardice says it is very much on the card.
