The International Cricket Council honours the best players across cricket with ICC awards every year. As we are just a couple of days away from the start of a new year, the council has been releasing four nominees each for different categories for 2021, the winner among which will be chosen by ICC’s voting academy as well as the fans and those pertaining to women’s cricket will be announced on January 23.
After Lizelle Lee, Tammy Beaumont, Hayley Matthews, and Fatima Sana made it to the nominee list of ICC Women’s ODI player of the year announced yesterday, we have the nominees for ICC Women’s T20I player of the year announced today:
1. Tammy Beaumont (England):
It’s a double delight for England’s Tammy Beaumont as she finds a spot on the nominee list for both ODIs and T20Is. Finishing 2021 as the leading T20I run-scorer for England and third in the overall T20I tally for the year with 303 runs, Beaumont scored 3 50+ scores for the English side, missing out on a century by just 3 runs. She was also adjudged as ICC’s player of the month for February.
2. Gaby Lewis (Ireland):
The youngster from Ireland Gaby Lewis finds herself in the second spot of the leading T20I run-scorer list for 2021. Aggregating 325 runs at 40.62, Lewis smashed the first T20I century by an Irish woman during ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier in August scoring 62 of her unbeaten knock of 105 from 11 4s and 3 6s.
3. Smriti Mandhana (India):
Leading India’s T20I run-scorer tally for yet another year, Smriti Mandhana contributed well to almost every game the team played. The third-ranked batter in the T20I ranking, Smriti made two 50+ scores for her national side aggregating 255 runs this year with an innings of 70 off 51 balls which consisted of four boundaries hit in a span of just eight balls, being the highest.
4. Nat Sciver (England):
Joining her English teammate Beaumont, Nat Sciver is the second nominee from England for the award. Ranked as the second-best all-rounder of T20I, Sciver scored 153 runs and took 10 wickets, finishing as the third-highest from her country in both run-scorer and wicket-takers list for 2021. Her best bowling figure for the year was 2/25 while 55 was her highest with the bat.
