After a successful year of cricket for women, it’s time to honour the stars of 2021 with the prestigious awards by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Chosen by the ICC’s voting academy as well as the Fans, the winners of individual awards for women’s cricket will be announced on January 23 with each of the categories having four nominees
Today the council announced the nominees for Women’s ODI Cricketer of the year. Making it to the best four of 2021 are:
1. Lizelle Lee (South Africa):
The top-ranked ODI batter, Lizelle Lee finished as the leading ODI run-scorer for 2021 with 632 runs. Representing Proteas in 11 ODI matches this year, Lee also smashed the year’s shared highest individual score of the format (132*) against India in March along with five half-centuries at an average of 90.28.
2. Tammy Beaumont (England):
The joint second-highest ODI run-scorer for 2021 tied with India’s Mithali Raj on 503 runs, English opener Tammy Beaumont scored consecutive half-centuries in her first four ODIs of the year and ended it with a century in the last one for 2021.
3. Hayley Matthews (West Indies):
The West Indies all-rounder, Hayley Matthews impressed everyone with her stellar performance as she joined her captain Stafanie Taylor in the top 10 ODI All-rounders. ICC player of the month award winner for November, Matthews scored 380 runs this year and 18 wickets as well.
4. Fatima Sana (Pakistan):
20 years old from Pakistan, Fatima Sana has been a surprise performer of 2021. Though played just two ODIs before the year, Sana finished 2021 with the most number of wickets in ODI for the year, tied at 20 with Anisa Mohammed from West Indies who occupied the first spot having achieved the count in a match less than Sana.
