England Women’s Acedemy wins first T20 against Ireland Women

Beginning the three-match T20 series campaign with a win, England Women’s Academy team showed complete control over their Irish counterparts at all the stages of the match. Losing the toss, the hosts were asked to bowl first and they reduced the visitors to 78 for 5 before Ireland’s captain, Laura Delaney and the wicketkeeper-batter Mary Waldron added important 51 runs for sixth wicket. The visitors finished with a total of 136 runs at the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20-overs quota.

English team played attacking cricket from the very beginning before Prendergast took two wickets on back-to-back deliveries and also broke 41-run vital partnership for 4th wicket to give some hope to her team. But the hosts reached the target quite comfortably in just 16.4 overs giving them a 1-0 lead in the series.

Orla Prendergast was the most effective and successful bowler for Ireland as she finished with figures of 3 for 25.
