Amelia Kerr wins big at the New Zealand Cricket Awards 2020-21

The New Zealand Cricket Awardees were announced today where all-rounder Amelia Kerr and Stand-in Captain Amy Satterthwaite have claimed the awards.

Kerr’s batting, bowling, and fielding skills in the Women’s Domestic T20 were appreciated and she was awarded the Women’s Dream11 Super Smash Player of the Year. Also, her key role in the games against Australia at Brisbane pre-Christmas and her contribution in the recent T20I series made her win the ANZ International Women’s T20 Player of the Year.

In the Women’s Dream11 Super Smash, the 20-year-old leg spinner’s average score with the bat was 51 at a strike rate of 134 as she scored a total of 361 runs. Playing for the Wellington Blaze, she also took a hat-trick in the final game of the tournament taking her wickets tally to 14. She was also in the top 3 places in both batting and bowling list.

In the year 2019-20 too, she was awarded many titles. She had won the ANZ Women’s ODI Player of the Year, Phyl Blackler Cup for women’s domestic bowling, and the Gillette Venus Cup as the Secondary Schools Female Player of the Year.

The white ferns stand-in captain Amy Satterthwaite, who returned to cricket after having a baby, managed to score 304 runs in 38 innings with her best score being 119* against England. She won the award for ANZ International Women’s ODI Player of the Year.

Apart from these, The Phyl Blackler Cup for women’s domestic bowling was awarded to Sarah Asmussen. 30-year-old right-arm off-break bowler Frankie Mackay (Frances Mackay) was awarded the Women’s Domestic Player of the Year title.
