While cricketing stars have risen from a handful of countries, billion hearts beat together for the game. Associate and smaller countries play a vital role in the growth of the game. In a heartening update from Cricket Scotland, we learn that Cricket Scotland is set to travel to Spain to take on Irish counterparts.
As per Cricket Scotland, Scotland’s national women’s squad will play 50-over and T20I matches against Ireland in November. The bilateral series will take place between 20th and 29th November. Scotland will play two matches of fifty overs accompanied by three T20Is. This tour shall mark the first international outing by a Scottish side after the pandemic enforced a lockdown throughout the globe.

As per reports, the exact dates for the fixtures are yet to be confirmed. Head coach of Scotland Steve Knox said that “The squad are both delighted and excited that they will be playing an international series in Spain against Ireland this November. It will give the players a great opportunity to show that all the hard work they’ve done in training over the past ten months, and in the A team games that were played in August and September, will hopefully pay off against a team that is ranked above us in T20I cricket”.
Gus Mackay, the Chief Executive Officer of Cricket Scotland, said that the board is delighted to provide “Wildcat” with the opportunity to play international cricket.
He added that “We would like to thank Cricket Ireland for their commitment to making this series happen thus ensuring that the women’s game in both countries continues to develop. We would also like to thank all the staff at La Manga for their commitment to ensuring a safe environment for the teams to compete in”.
The 14-player squad for the Scottish side is as follows:
Kathryn Bryce (captain), Sarah Bryce (vice-captain, wicketkeeper), Abbi Aitken-Drummond, Priyanaz Chatterji, Ikra Farooq, Katherine Fraser, Becky Glen, Samantha Haggo, Ailsa Lister, Abtaha Maqsood, Megan McColl, Katherine Mills, Charis Scott, Ellen Watson
Peter Ross will be the assistant coach working under the supervision of Head Coach Steven Knox. Charlotte Dalton would be a strength and conditioning coach and analyst.
Sue Strachan would be the team manager and Claire Rankin shall work as a physio. Scottish side shall be subject to the stern protocols of bio-bubbles. The players will look to make the most of the tour as an international tour amidst pandemic is luxury.
