“This World Cup Title was the last piece of our puzzle,” says Alyssa Healy

After a successful World Cup campaign, winning the ODI World Cup trophy on 3rd April 2022, Australian opener Alyssa Healy believes that the Australian dominance in women’s cricket will continue for 10-15 more years as she sees a lot of talent and promises in the young upcoming talent in the Australian side.

The Aussie women bulldozed the former champions England in the Final and won the 2022 Women’s World Cup. Australia won all their 9 matches in the tournament and remained undefeated. The batters of the likes of Alyssa Healy, Rachael Haynes, Meg Lanning, and Beth Mooney were exceptional with the bat throughout the tournament scoring the bulk of the runs for the Australian side and helping the team put up big scores on the board. Alyssa Healy scored a mind-blowing 170 in the final and won the ‘Player of the Tournament Award.

Speaking to Fox Sports on Monday, Healy shared her feelings on the dominant world cup campaign and the future of Australian Cricket, Healy said, “ I’m proud to be a part of this side. We sat down and reinvented ourselves and made sure we strive towards perfection which has resulted in us becoming a much better side. We have worked for this for the last 5 years winning 40 of our 43 matches since the 2017 WC. This title was the last piece of our puzzle and we have been able to successfully complete it.”

While talking about the future of the side, Healy felt that the team is filled with young talented women likes Alana King, Annabel Sutherland, Amanda Wellington, and others. Seeing the amount of young talent that is coming up, she feels the team is in good hands and will dominate the Women’s Cricket scene for the next 10-15 years.

Adding more substance to this, Australia Coach Matthew Mott said that the team will not be making any major changes post the World Cup triumph. He added that there won’t be any change in the senior player group of Rachael Haynes, Meg Lanning, Ellyse Perry, and Alyssa Healy who’ll are 30 and above.

Speaking with Laura Jolly of Cricket Australia, Mott said, “There won’t be any changes in the near future. We are having a great amount of talents who are capable of being a part of the playing 11. But, it’s a great headache for us as we know the standard of our game won’t fall with these talented players as our backups. It’s tough to make these the really good players sit out. But, it’s a nice problem to have.”

Australia will now work towards getting ready for the various bilateral series and commonwealth games later in the year. They will also be getting ready for the T20 World Cup in February 2023 in South Africa.
