With South Africa winning both the ODI and T20I series against India, it is now a chance for a strong Australian side to trounce another home team starting with the T20I series against New Zealand. When they last met each other in Australia in September last year, Australia prevailed 2-1. It is now New Zealand’s chance to return the favor, but being blanked by England at home would be shaking some confidence.
As we await the much-anticipated series between the Trans-Tasman rivals, let us have a look at the records that can be made or broken during the series.
Meg Lanning could become the first Australian, male or female, to score 3000 runs in T20Is:
The Australian captain, Meg Lanning, has scored 2859 runs in T20Is in 107 games. If she scores 141 runs in these 3 games, she will become the first Australian cricketer, male or female, and the third woman overall to score 3000 runs in T20I cricket. Only Suzie Bates from New Zealand and Stafanie Taylor from West Indies have reached this landmark so far. What’s more, if she reaches this landmark within her first 2 innings in the series, she will be the joint-fastest to this landmark, alongside Suzie Bates.
Sophie Devine would play 100th T20I, may reach landmarks of 2500 runs and 100 wickets in T20Is:
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine is also expected to reach quite a few milestones in this series. With 97 T20Is to her name, she would represent New Zealand in 100 T20Is if she played all the 3 games in the series. She has currently scored 2457 runs and taken 94 wickets. If she scores another 43 runs and takes 6 more wickets in the series, she will complete the double of 2500 T20I runs and 100 T20I wickets in her career, becoming the first woman to achieve this feat in T20Is.
Ellyse Perry would become the most capped player and become the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is:
Ellyse Perry returns from injury and is set to create history by becoming the most capped player in T20Is, male or female. She has played 120 T20Is so far and playing 3 more games will allow her to break Suzie Bates’ record of 122 T20Is. She is also 6 wickets behind West Indian Anisa Mohammed’s tally of 120 wickets and may end the series as the highest wicket-taker in the format.
Alyssa Healy may become the first wicketkeeper, male or female, to claim 100 dismissals in T20Is:
With 44 catches and 51 stumpings, the Australian wicket-keeper has a total of 95 scalps in Women’s T20Is and has the highest number of dismissals in T20Is across men and women. Another 5 dismissals would make her the first wicket-keeper, male or female, to have claimed 100 dismissals in T20Is.
Megan Schutt might reach 100 wickets in T20Is:
Among other milestones of note, Megan Schutt has the potential to reach 100 wickets in T20I cricket. She has claimed 93 wickets so far and another 7 would make her reach that landmark.
Katey Martin would join the 1000-run club:
With 954 runs in 88 games, Katey Martin is on the verge of completing 1000 runs in T20Is and another 46 runs from these 3 games will help her reach the landmark.
