3rd ODI – South Africa Women defeats Pakistan 3-0 in ODI Series

The third ODI between South Africa and Pakistan was a dead rubber as South Africa had already taken a lead of 2-0 in the three-match ODI series. The two sides met on Tuesday at Durban, with one looking for a whitewash, while the other looking for redemption.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, Pakistan bundled out the hosts to 201 in 50 overs. The opening pair of Lizelle Lee (49) and Laura Wolvaardt (58) stitched a 79-run partnership to lay a solid foundation. After the duo departed, there was a batting collapse, as none of the batters managed to play long innings. Skipper Sune Luus (15) and middle-order bat Anne Bosch (15) got off to starts but failed to capitalize. Wicket-keeper bat Trisha Chetty looked good during her knock of 34 but fell against the run of play. With the ball for Pakistan, Diana Baig was the pick of the bowlers as she scalped 4-30 in her 10 overs.

In reply, chasing 202 at just over four runs per over, Pakistan did not get off to the best of starts. The visitors lost the opening bat Nahida Khan (3) in the third over and Omaima Sohail (2) in the fifth over. Shabnim Ismail got rid of Khan and Sohail. Skipper Javeria Khan (33) looked to consolidate but all-rounder Sune Luus got the better of her. Pakistan lost half its side for 73 in 25.1 overs. In the end, the otherwise innocuous target of 202 looked daunting as Pakistan was done and dusted for 169 in 48 overs.  Shabnim Ismail, Ayabonga Khaka, and Sune Luus were the wreckers-in-chief with the ball as the trio picked up three wickets apiece. South Africa whitewashed Pakistan as it won the third and final ODI by 32 runs.
