Stafanie Taylor ruled out of West Indies’ final clash against South Africa

West Indies captain Stafanie Taylor will not be a part of the playing squad in its final ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 match against South Africa in Sydney. She struggled to run in the middle and collapsed. She had to be sent on a stretcher, retired hurt. The 2016 champions were restricted to 97 runs without their in-form captain and were badly defeated in the group stage.

West Indies only has a single win against Thailand in their group so far. They would want to end their campaign on a positive note in their final match on Tuesday. However, Taylor’s injury has given them a blow. It is a matter of concern for the team as they look forward to the final match.

“I have to get my XI on the field first. Right now we’re struggling,” said coach Gus Logie.

“The captain is out of the tournament, no two ways about it. We’ve had other players who’ve had issues reoccurring as the tour went on. We are hoping to put a fit XI on the field first.

Britney Cooper was limping, she twisted her ankle a little. We had [Chinelle] Henry who wasn’t available [for England] game because of a recurrence of something that happened in the past. We’ve had a few setbacks this tour to key players.”

With only one game left, West Indies are unlikely to name replacements.
