The Indian team travels to Melbourne to play New Zealand in the third league game of the tournament. In Melbourne, they say the pitch does offer even bounce for both batters and bowlers.
The Indian team will definitely hope to see Smriti coming back to the team for this important match. Last time they played in the world cup Harman scored a brilliant 50 ball century against New Zealand and I’m sure she will take this game to change the gears for her in the tournament.
The batters should look to continue the starts they are getting in the power play. They should look to convert those ones and twos, make use of playing with soft hands. Jemimah, Deepti, Veda should continue scoring those crucial runs in the middle. Between 15 to 20 overs whichever batter is playing should aim to have at least one boundary per over along with those ones and twos. The rotation of the strike has been excellent. Batters can make more use of the crease and play those cuts and pulls. My batter to watch for is Shafali and Smriti if she plays today.
In bowling, I would like to mention that New Zealand has got tall players (batters) in the team, so India should plan and bowl accordingly. I would surely like Harman to bowl a few overs. Rajeshwari Gayakwad does have a good record against the Kiwis. Poonam, Shikha should just keep bowling those brilliant spells. Pacers should make more use of slower ones. My bowler to watch out apart from Poonam is Rajeshwari Gayakwad.
In the playing eleven, I don’t mind seeing Radha Yadav and surely would want to see Smriti back.
