Australia being the hosts for the world cup and also the title defenders are the favorites for the tournament, just before the start, they have been hit by a shock, their star fast bowler Tayla Vlaeminck suffered a stress fracture in her foot and has been sporting a moon boot. applied to the ICC to have a replacement player brought into their 15-person squad. Fast bowler Belinda Vakarewa and spinner Molly Strano were the two candidates to join the squad, while Australia could have considered taking Elyse Villani in if Matthew Mott’s squads demand batting depth.

Australia will train at Sydney Showgrounds on Thursday, ahead of their first game against India on Friday night. “Anything that requires a moon boot isn’t overly great,” teammate Ellyse Perry told reporters on Wednesday before she was ruled out. ‘

’The whole squad has their fingers and toes crossed for Tay but I don’t think it’s really positive. We’ll probably know in the next 24 hours. From a player’s point of view, we’re really supportive of Tay, she is a really important member of our squad and we wish her all the best.”

Vlaeminck has had a number of injury setbacks earlier too which involves her two knee reconstructions as a junior.

Former Australian star Mel Jones has predicted Vlaeminck could be the first female to hit the 130 km/h barrier.

“Once she has that confidence to just wang it down there. It’s not unfathomable to say that she will be our 130km/h bowler,” Jones, who played 66 games for Australia across all formats, told AAP.

“You don’t want to put pressure on her, but I think that’s capable. And if she doesn’t she will generate the next generation of bowlers who want to be the next Tayla Vlaeminck.”

Unfortunately, Tayla Vlaeminck is out of the World Cup due to her injury. She has been replaced by Molly Strano in the squad. She has a record of 7 wickets in 5 International games.
