The Women's T20 World Cup 2026 returned with New Zealand taking on Sri Lanka in Match 7.
New Zealand lost an early wicket, but Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine steadied the innings with knocks of 45 each.
Maddy Green's unbeaten 18 off 13 balls provided the late push as New Zealand posted 150.
Kavisha Dilhari claimed two wickets, while the rest of Sri Lanka's attack chipped in to keep things under control.
In reply, Chamari Athapaththu (27 off 19) and Vishmi Gunaratne (17) gave Sri Lanka a positive start.
But Sri Lanka slipped from 45/1 to 55/4 as Nensi Patel struck twice, before Dilhari (17) and Nilakshika Silva kept the chase alive.
Silva's 54* (37), alongside Kaushini Nuthyangana (24*), powered Sri Lanka home with two balls to spare, sealing their first-ever World Cup win over New Zealand.
