1st Innings Summary – Captain Ellyse Perry and opener Alyssa Healy played magnificently and put up an opening wicket partnership of 108 runs before Perry got bowled by Nicola Hancock in the 12th over. Both the batters looked very comfortable and played shots with ease. The 108-run stand included thirteen 4s and one 6. But when it looked that Sydney Sixers would reach somewhere near 200, no substantial partnership could build up after the fall of first wicket. Run rate slowed down as the wickets kept falling till the end of the innings. Nicola Hancock took four wickets for MLSW and later became the leading wicket taker of the match.
2nd Innings Summary – Chasing a formidable total, MLSW opener Lizelle Lee wrecked apart the SYSW bowling attack and went on to make 102 not out off just 56 balls. The manmoth innings included sixteen 4s and three 6s. Together with middle order batter Mignon du Preez (who played quick innings of 33 runs off 27 balls), Lee gifted her team a winning start in the tornament. None of the Sydney Sixers’ bowlers could build up pressure on the batters and were hit all over the ground.
Player of the match – Lizelle Lee for unbeaten match winning knock of 102 runs. Thus becoming the first player to make a century of this edition of WBBL and that too in the team’s match.
