Riding on Georgia Plimmer’s Fifty, New Zealand steamroll Pakistan by 103 runs

New Zealand had the best possible outing as they handed Pakistan a demoralizing loss of 103 runs in their Super Six, Group 2 match at Potchefstroom. Pakistan won the toss and decided to field first.

Batting first, New Zealand put on a commanding 178/7 in their quota of 20 overs. Anna Browning and Emma McLeod gave the finest of the starts but the latter was the earliest to fall for 32 as Anosha Nasir struck. Georgia Plimmer joined Browning and were building on a formidable partnership till Browning was out for a well-played 31 by Rida Aslam. Izzy Gaze and Plimmer piled on the runs but Mahnoor Aftab got the better of Gaze which was a setback for New Zealand. Izzy Sharp too did not affect the scorecard as much as Aftab dismissed her for 11. However, a mammoth 53 off 38 by Plimmer till she was out in the final over ensured New Zealand had something to defend. Anosha Nasir was brilliant as she bagged three wickets and Mahnoor Aftab with her 2 wickets ably supported her.

Pakistan had the worst possible start in contrast to New Zealand as they lost Shawaal Zulfiqar in the very first ball for a golden duck as Anna Browning got the better of her. Eyman Fatima followed her to the pavilion next with a dismal four-ball duck. Warda Yousaf’s run out coupled with Syeda Aroob Shah’s dismissal indicated four wickets had fallen even before the powerplay. Laiba Nasir’s laboured 4 off 12 balls coupled with Aliza Khan’s 11 off 26 made a recovery for Pakistan impossible. Areesha Noor tried to fight back with her knock of 24 but was run out and Anosha Nasir and Rida Aslam were the last batters stranded as Pakistan was saddled with a massive 103 runs loss and a lot to introspect.

Brief Scores- NZ- 178/7 (G Plimmer 53, E McLeod 32; A Nasir 3/32, M Aftab 2/46) defeated PAK- 75/7 (A Nasir 24; N Codyre 2/14, A Browning 1/5) by 103 runs
