Let’s recollect some of the most precious moments of Women’s cricket in the year 2017:-
1) Jhulan Goswami becomes the highest Wicket-taker in Women’s Cricket
Legendary Indian right-arm bowler became the highest wicket-taker in ODIs in women’s cricket when she took South African batter Raisibe Ntozakhe’s wicket in the Women’s Quadrangular Series in May. Goswami took her 181st wicket in 153 matches and surpassed the earlier world record held by Australian bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrik.
2) Chamari Atapattu’s Historic Knock
Sri Lankan batter Chamari Atapattu produced one of the greatest moments on the cricket field in women’s cricket by notching up 178 runs unbeaten innings in a group stage match against one of the strongest teams of WWC 2017, the Southern Stars. Control, Tempo and Timing were the three main weapons she used to mark this “SO SPECIAL INNINGS”.
3) Pakistan bowler Kainat Imtiaz reveals India’s Jhulan Goswami as her inspiration
Every aspiring cricketer has an idol and wants to play the game gracefully like the person they adore. In July 2017, Pakistan’s fast bowler Kainat Imtiaz finally met her idol, Jhulan Goswami during WWC and took to instagram to express her excitement and happiness for the same. Putting a picture of herself with the Indian pacer, the former revealed, to the whole world, how she idolised Goswami from a tender age and meeting the legendary bowler in person, had been the moment of sheer joy for her.
4) Mithali Raj became highest run-scorer in Women’s ODI cricket
Remember the moment when Indian skipper Mithali Raj punched the ball wide of point off Ellyse Perry to take a single in the World Cup match against Australia in Bristol? Well, that was one of the golden moments for Raj and India as she had broken the world record of highest scorer in Women’s ODI earlier held by English batter Charlotte Edwards of 5992 runs.
5) 1st Semi-Final – Uncontrollable Tears
What had been another heartbreak for South African side in the first semifinal of WWC 2017, there was a moment of “True Sportsmanship” on the field on July 18, 2017. As soon as Anya Shrubsole hit the winning runs, South African players went down to tears in despair. What followed was a pictorial definition of the true nature of sport as Shrubsole was seen consoling the visibly distressed South African mates.
This act undoubtedly earned huge applaud from all over the world.
