Extended Women’s National Cricket League season is a step in the right direction – Alyssa Healy

Cricket Australia recently released the schedule the upcoming season of Women’s National Cricket League and made major changes in the structure of 50over domestic tournament. Each of the seven teams will now have to play eight games as against six that they have played in the past nine seasons.

Australia Women’s batter and New South Wales captain, Alyssa Healy said, “It’s something the players have been pushing for, for a period of time since the number of games decreased a little while ago.” “It’s one of our biggest domestic competitions and we want to make sure if remains really strong, so the addition of a couple of extra games will give a lot of the younger players throughout our country a good opportunity to play good quality cricket,” she added.

Healy believes that two extra games will further strengthen the depth of talent and in the light of busy international schedule of senior players, it is an added opportunity for the young girls to showcase their talent to the selectors.
