India’s former women cricketers are having a tough time in finding the records of matches organized by the Women’s Cricket Association of India (WCAI) from 1973 to 2005. After making frantic efforts by calling up teammates, scorers, statisticians and friends in the newspaper offices to collect score sheets and clippings of the matches for over 12 months now, the players have virtually given up trying to find evidence of having played the WCAI organized tournaments until 2005.
According to the eligibility criteria for applying to the membership of the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA), which has been recently approved by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, only verified records of a certain number of matches played by a player would be accepted for applying the membership of the only recognized body.
Sharing her plight, a former woman cricketer, Nutan Natu told The Hindu that although she had played many matches over a period of four or five years but no records were maintained by the WCAI.
