Top Bowling Performance at Women’s Kia Super League 2018

In a format where the bat dominates the ball, there have been quite a few notable performances with the ball too. As the Kia Super League gets into its final stages, it is about time that we have a look at the bowlers who have done well for their teams in this tournament so far.

1. Katie Levick (Yorkshire Diamonds)
This leg spinner from England playing for Yorkshire Diamonds has managed 9 scalps in the tournament so far. Her best was 3 for 35 against Southern Vipers. She has been a little on the expensive side and has conceded runs at an economy of 6.60 per over. Yorkshire Diamonds will rely on her leg spinners if they have to make any further progress in the tournament.

2. Sophie Ecclestone (Lancashire Thunder)
She is yet another member from the English squad to feature in the top bowlers of the tournament list. Ecclestone has picked up 10 wickets at an average of 19.40 with best figures of 3/11 against Yorkshire Diamonds. She has been getting crucial breakthroughs for Thunders at regular intervals but will like to control the flow of runs for the opposition (economy rate: 6.92).

3. Natasha Farrant (Southern Vipers)
Like her fellow English team-mates, she too has been a pick of the bowlers this season and already has 10 wickets to her name. However, she has been giving away runs at a rate of 7.77 per over which is something she would like to work upon. Her best performance was against Surrey Stars where she conceded 16 runs and picked up 3 important wickets.

5. Kirstie Gordon (Loughborough Lightning)
The right arm medium bowler from Scotland has been one of the reasons why Loughborough Lightings has been at the top of the table. She has managed to pick up 11 wickets with a very impressive economy rate of only 5.58 per over. Her best in the tournament was against the Stars where she picked up 3 wickets by conceding 13 runs.

6. Jenny Gunn (Loughborough Lightning)
One of the most experienced bowlers in the women’s cricket around the world, this English veteran is second in the table for most wickets in the tournament. With 12 wickets at an economy of 6.18, she has one of the best averages in the tournament (11.33). Her best was against the Thunders where she conceded only 10 runs and picked up 3 wickets.

7. Sophie Devine (Loughborough Lightning)
One of the top all-rounders and arguably the best in the tournament, Sophie Devine features at the top of the list for both the batswomen and bowlers. The Kiwi all-rounder has 13 wickets to her name and an economy of 6.58 runs per over. She has picked 3 wickets twice in the tournament with best of 3/15 against the Thunders. She has been a revelation in the Lightning’s camp and a major reason that they are currently second in the points table.

With not many matches to go, there could be few more ups and downs in the list of top bowlers in the tournament. Alice Davidson-Richards, Alex Hartley, Amelia Kerr and others are finding their form at the right time and are very much into contention to get into the much coveted list of top bowlers of the tournament. Looking forward to an exciting finish to the tournament and more balance between the bat and ball.
