Barbados adds Women’s T20 Blaze title to their Super50 championship

Barbados dethroned Jamaica to complete the double after they added the Women’s T20 Blaze title to their Super50 championship earlier this week. The Jamaicans looked unlikely to retain their title following consecutive defeats, this to the eventual Champions themselves and hosts Guyana in rounds two and three respectively. The Stafanie Taylor led team left themselves too much work to do heading into the final two rounds.

It was never in doubt for Barbados, however, who ended the tournament undefeated. Deandra Dottin was again in top form on the night her team would lift the trophy. Dottin led the chase of Guyana’s 85 with an unbeaten 43. Barbados got to their target inside 17 overs. The ever-present, Hayley Matthews, got in on the action as well,  this time, with ball in hand–claiming 2 for 13 as Guyana was restricted to 85/7 in their 20 overs.

The other teams to finish the tournament with a win were Jamaica and the Windward Islands. Jamaica defeated Trinidad and Tobago in the first match of the day. T&T did manage to get up to a tricky 145 from their 20 overs, but Chedean Nation 63* and Chinelle Henry 44* ensured Jamaica finished second in the table.

The Windward Islands had a while to wait for their first win of the tournament and it came in the final rounds in the form of an 11-run win over the Leeward Islands.

While the Bajans dominated at the senior level, we will have a chance to see what the future of WINDIES Women’s Cricket holds when the U-19 competition bowls off in a few weeks time.
