Matthew Mott, the Australian Women’s cricket coach shared in an interview how he makes a tough call when he needs to drop someone. Mott, a former first class Australian cricketer who was often dropped from his team during his playing days said on a special Foxsports podcast, “Selectors don’t pick team. No, players pick teams. Sometimes the best thing for players is to be dropped. And I’d know better than most!”
After Mott’s retirement he was requested by New Zealand and Victoria to take the charge. But good luck was stored for the Aussie women it seems. Under Matthew Mott the Australian Women’s Team is currently ranking at number 1 in ICC list. Regarding coaching the female team, Mott said, “I haven’t seen that females are any more emotional than men. It’s pretty much the opposite. When I was playing it was almost culturally acceptable that when you got out you smashed your gear and destroyed the dressing room. I haven’t seen that. They’ve kept a lid on their emotions pretty well.
He added, “I’m a sports nut. I don’t see gender when I see sports. I think you can take the best out of what you can see.”
